The news broke recently that the ‘Nation Data Director’ for the Sanders campaign accessed the Clinton data on the DNC voter database. Normally this can’t happen, but the ‘firewall’ (Which BTW I hate that term for this as it’s not really a firewall, but anyways.) was down. I see some crying that the DNC is punishing Sanders unfairly, I see others claiming it had to be an accident because the “firewall” had come down before, and the Sanders campaign had reported it before.
Wait.. back up a second.
So.. the *National Data Director* for the Sanders campaign, KNOWING this had been an issue before (Because if he didn’t know, he had no business being the Data Director for a National campaign, as that’s high in his wheelhouse.) accessed the Data. I also see people saying it could have been an accident.
Not very likely. To keep the data separate, it’s got to be tagged in certain ways (I’m not getting technical here, no point in it.) It’s not bloody likely that the *National Data Director* didn’t know exactly what he was doing. Now I personally think it’s likely it was only him, yes four user accounts were used, but that means nothing. I have 6 accounts at my current place of employment all created for various purposes, users accounts are a dime a dozen.
The DNC has suspended the Sanders campaign from using the Database until they can provide a full explanation, and prove that the campaign doesn’t have copies of the accessed data. All *NORMAL* and *SENSIBLE* rules. They haven’t “scuttled” the Sanders campaign, they haven’t “unfairly targeted” him either.
There is *NO* proof that if the shoes had been reversed that Clinton wouldn’t have had the same punishment (And we know what the Press and the Republicans would have said about that!!) claims otherwise are hyperbole and victimization claiming.
It boils down to this:
A staffer for Sanders got caught doing something he shouldn’t have done. He got fired (As he should have.) The DNC wants to make sure what happened and that the data isn’t being used. In 24 hours this will most likely be resolved.
